Arlette Quỳnh-Anh Trần was born in Germany, and was raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. From 2006 to 2007 she was hired to be assistant curator for 2 prominent curators / artists; Rirkrit Tiravanija and Gridthiya Gaweewong in Saigon Open City project, the first attempt to realize a big-scaled manifestation of contemporary art in Vietnam. Following by a period contributing routinely in the administrating field in multiple projects in Southeast Asia and Europe, Arlette then moved to Berlin to study history of art and philosophy.


From February 2013, Arlette returned to Vietnam, working for Sàn Art to help develop the local contemporary art scene.


Arlette has contributed her research, writings and thoughts to various local and international publications, exhibitions and projects, such as “2084” (2012)—video episode by sociologist Pelin Tan and artist Anton Vidokle; “Digitizing the Archival Materials of Blue Space Contemporary Arts Centre,” for Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong; World Biennale Forum No.1, Gwangju, Korea; SYNAPSE—International Curator Network, HKW, Berlin; “One Planet” solo exhibition of Nguyen Manh Hung, Galerie Quynh; “Right Fiction” group exhibition, San Art. Arlette is currently part of Art Labor, an artist and scientist collective in Saigon.
